Got 15 minutes? Want to win a gift card? Virtual Tree Test -- 10/1-11/01

What is a tree test?

A tree test is a usability study technique where users are given a task, that is typical to the website, and using only menus and submenus (no content or homepage) navigate to where they believe the answer would be.

What does it tell the web designers?

A tree test is designed to tell the web designers if the new proposed navigation is getting users from point A to point B.  There may be multiple paths to get from point A to point B and every path is neither right nor wrong.

Why should I do this?

Without the input of users, web designers would be assuming a lot and could potentially create a website that makes sense to them and no one else.  A tree test helps determine if new vocabulary and menu options are directing people to the information they need.

Also, we are offering 6 $25 gift cards to Barnes & Noble at Longwood!  Each volunteer will be entered to win one gift card.  Please do not submit your name multiple times as it will only be used once. The drawing will occur on November 3, 2021.

How long will it take?

The tree test activity contains five tasks to complete, with feedback questions.  The activity should take approximately fifteen minutes.

Now what?

First, you sign up with your name, email and classification (faculty/staff, undergraduate student, graduate student). To sign uphttps://longwood.libwizard.com/f/treetestsignup

Then you will receive an email with the link to the tree test itself.  You will need to complete the tree test before November 1.

If you are a winner of the drawing, you will be contacted and given instructions on how to pick up your prize!
