Virtual Card Sort

What is a card sort?

A card sort helps us, the designers, to build a website aligned to the user's needs, so you can find things faster and achieve your goals more effectively. A card sort is a short activity where you are given terms associated with parts of the website and then asked to sort them into categories.

There are different kinds of cards sorts including open, closed, or hybrid.  An open card sort is where the participant creates their own categories, a closed card sort is where the categories are provided and a hybrid is where most of categories are provided but if the participant thinks of a better category, they can add it.

How does this help the library website?

It'll help us create a better way to navigate the library website.  By putting the cards into groups, you are essential creating a road map to how the items will be displayed on the library website.

Why should I participate in the card sort?

We cannot improve the library website without your input as the users, and there is a chance to win a Starbucks gift card!  Two winners will be selected from the pool of volunteers for a Starbucks gift card up to $50 in value.

How long will it take?

The card sort should take no more than 15 minutes of your time.

How do I sign up?

Fill out the following form and we will email you a link with a password to the virtual card sort.  Complete the activity and then we'll contact you if you are a winner for the card sort!

I have more questions, who do I contact?

Hope D. Alwine or Mark Hamilton will be happy to answer any questions or address any accommodations or concerns relating to the virtual card sort.
