Located in the stairwell of Greenwood Library, Sectio Aurea is a collaborative art sculpture made with various media. Under the leadership of Donovan Douglas, artists collaborated to create art that captured the idea of the Golden Ratio or Golden Section, while incorporating general themes of knowledge and learning suitable to the library environment. In art, the Golden Ratio describes a sense of perfect balance or proportion.

Since I started work at Longwood University’s Greenwood Library in 2016, the large wall space between the first and second floors has called out to me, begging to be adorned with art. After speaking with several people about this goal, I was thrilled when Donovan Douglas, Assistant Professor of Graphic and Animation Design, responded positively and immediately set about organizing efforts. Thanks to Donovan’s diligence, this exceptional endeavor brought together the creative power of Longwood art students and faculty. Their work captures the collaborative spirit that permeates Greenwood Library, where we celebrate curiosity every day!
