May Cornelius Von Tromp Downs Collection

Biographical Information

May Cornelius Van Tromp Downs was born on December 29, 1911 in Pulaski County, Virginia. She graduated from [then] State Teachers College in 1933 with a bachelor’s degree in history. During her time at the school she was involved in many organizations, including: Granddaughter’s Club (her mother, Sallie Willette Leache, attended the school in 1898), Dramatic Club, Executive Board, Field Hockey, the Y.W.C.A, and the Athletic Association.


This collection was donated to the Greenwood Library Archives in 2012 by May Cornelius Van Tromp Down’s son, Bill Ellis, retired professor at Penn State University.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of a history of the State Teachers College Class of 1933.


This collection consists of (1) acid-free folder contained in a legal-sized archival box.
