Tricky Cases

DOI Lookup

The APA style for electronic journal articles requires a DOI if available. The DOI is a "digital object identifier" with a combination of numbers and letters that is unique to a specific article (see example below). When you provide the DOI, you do not have to provide the URL of the article or the access date.

Stultz, J. (2006). Integrating exposure therapy and analytic therapy in trauma treatment. American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 76(4), 482–488. doi:10.1037/0002-9432.76.4.482

If you don't see a DOI in the online article information or on the printout, you can check to see if there is a DOI.

Go to http://www.crossref.org/guestquery/ to enter your citation information and check for a DOI. You can also copy and paste the complete citation into the form on http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/ to search for a DOI.
